Personal injury compensation
Anyone who suffers an injury in an accident can make a claim for compensation.
It doesn’t matter how serious the injury is or even how it occurred – what counts is whether it is possible to show that a third party has been negligent. In other words, if someone else was responsible (wholly or in part) then you could have grounds for a personal injury claim.
Personal injury claims fall into several different categories:
Accidents at work
Your employer has a duty of care to ensure you can do your job safely.
Several laws exist to protect employees at work and if it can be
shown that they have not been complied with and that this has led
to a personal injury, you can claim for compensation. Employers
are not allowed to dismiss you for making a personal injury claim.
Road Traffic Accident:
Any driver, cyclist, passenger or pedestrian who receives a personal
injury as a result of a road traffic accident involving another driver’s negligence can claim for loss and injury. You can also claim if the accident was caused by the road being in a dangerous condition.
General Accidents and Injury:
Slips, trips and falls can occur anywhere and often result in a nasty
injury. You could be entitled to claim for personal injury compensation
If the accident was not your own fault. Your accident could have
happened almost anywhere. The law says all public premises – supermarkets, gyms, schools etc - must be safe. Also local authorities are legally obliged to keep public highways and pavements safe from hazards like broken paving stones, holes etc.
Medical incompetence:
You can claim for compensation from professionals, such as doctors
and dentists, when that care and advice is incompetent or below standard
and leads to injury or a need for further treatment.
